In what language do I write when I write about death?

I started writing this blog in English, but I’ve been thinking about writing more in Dutch. I’m still figuring out what suits me better. When I write about books or movies, popculture, news or other things that inspire me, I write it in English. My blog doesn’t really have any readers, except for my husband, so I feel like whatever I write is just thrown into the sea of the internet like a message in a bottle. If anyone finds it, the chances that person can actually read it are just a lot bigger if my message is written in English.

However, lately I’ve been thinking a lot about things that I’d rather write about in Dutch. I think about what my funeral should be like or about how I want to be remembered by the people who know me. I think about what the best moments in my life looked like and how I can create more while I’m still around. I know I’m dying and I feel the need to leave something behind of myself. And when I do, I would like to do so in Dutch, since that is the language I communicate in with the people I love most. It feels more meaningful and personal in Dutch.

So if you’re reading my blog in the future you’ll know, if I’m writing in Dutch it’s probably a more personal post. ;)
